Phopi Ratna Agustin: Musisi harus punya karakteristik yang kuat

[Uncluster/Hermusic]---Istilah buah tidak akan jatuh jauh dari pohonnya tidak berlaku bagi gadis ini. Mengaku tidak terlahir dari keluarga musisi, gadis bernama lengkap Phopi Ratna Agustin ini justru sempat mendapat tentangan dari keluarga terutama kedua orang tuanya untuk berkarir di bidang musik. Namun Phopi tetap berjalan untuk sebuah pembuktian, dan kini ia bermain bahkan untuk tiga band yaitu Monalisa, Lose It All, dan Angsa dan Serigala. Uniknya ketiga band itu memiliki genre musik yang berbeda-beda. Lantas bagaimana gadis kelahiran 6 Agustus 1989 ini memandang dunia musik dan kiprah karirnya dalam bermusik? Berikut interview anak pertama dari tiga bersaudara ini dengan Uncluster, di sela-sela kegiatannya sebelum melakukan briefing rutin dengan salah satu band tempat ia bermain.

uncluster: Halo Phopi
Phopi: Halo juga..

uncluster:Gimana awal mula kamu mulai main musik?
Phopi:Karena suka aja sih, meski dulu sempet dapet tentangan dari kedua orang tua. Menurut mereka kultur main musik itu “kurang bagus,” tetapi lambat laun aku mulai buktiin kalo itu tuh enggak selalu bener.

uncluster:Dari ketiga band tempat kamu bermain sekarang, band mana yang pertama kali?
Phopi:Aku pertama kali gabung sama Monalisa yang genre musiknya melodic punk sebagai pemain drum.

uncluster:Dari ketiga band itu, kamu paling ngerasa enjoy maen di band yang mana?
Phopi:Sebenernya agak takut sih jawab yang ini hehe.. Takut ada yang cemburu soalnya, eh tapi lebih enak di Angsa dan Serigala sih soalnya lebih terkordinir dan terkonsep.

uncluster:Menurut kamu musisi yang potensial tuh yang kaya gimana?
Phopi:Mungkin dari keunikan kali yah, musisi tuh harus punya karakteristik yang kuat sampai munculin image yang jadi terlihat unik.

uncluster:Band lokal mana yang sekarang layak buat disimak?
Phopi:Sekarang sih aku lagi suka sama D’Masiv yah hehe.. bagus sih lagunya enak, liriknya gampang diinget. Euh.. terus Endah N Ressa sama Efek Rumah Kaca juga mantep dan layak.

uncluster:Kamu setuju gak buat para musisi sekarang yang nge-cover lagu musisi lain hanya untuk alasan popularitas dan mendongkrak angka penjualan?
Phopi:Kalo menurut aku sih “kurang uy”, lebih bagus kalo musisi itu tuh nonjolin karya sendiri. Kalo buat aku pribadi hal itu merupakan kepuasaan tersendiri.

uncluster:Sebuah karya musik yang berkarakter itu seperti apa?
Phopi:Menurut aku sih yang begitu orang denger langsung tertuju ke si musisinya, karakteristik-nya tuh kuat, misal begitu denger vokal-nya langsung ketauan siapa yang nyanyi, meski sekarang tuh udah jarang yang orsinil juga yah soalnya masing-masing musisi pasti banyak influence dari musisi lain. Jadi gak jarang kalo pas bikin lagu, misal pas bagian intro atau reff-nya ampir sama kaya-karya lagu orang lain. Susah juga sih hehe..

uncluster:Selama ini mana yang lebih menyenangkan nih antara jadi vokalis atau main drum?
Phopi:Jujur sih sebenarnya lebih enak nge-vokalin hehe.. Tapi dua-duanya punya keenakan tersendiri sih, intinya sih keduanya juga sama-sama “nendang” yah yang satu mukul-mukul yang satu teriak-teriak.

uncluster:Mending terkenal tapi karyanya “biasa aja” atau berkarya secara maksimal tapi kurang menjual?
Phopi:Aku sih pengennya ada sedikit kemajuan, pengennya tuh hasil karyanya gak cuma didenger di komunitas tertentu di Kota Bandung. Emang sih misal kita masuk major suka ada diatu-atur ya, tapi buat album pertama sih ikutin dulu aja. Nanti di album selanjutnya pas udah punya “massa” sendiri nah baru kita pegang idealis kita, yah awalnya kita ngikutin pasar dulu aja ntar mah jadi sebaliknya hehe.. kalo bisa sih.

uncluster:Dari ketiga band yang sekarang, mana yang udah ada langkah menuju ke sana?
Phopi:Kayanya di Angsa dan Serigala sih, soalnya selain liriknya pake Bahasa Indonesia, musiknya juga cenderung easy listening dan tidak terlalu tersegmen sama pendengar jenis musik tertentu.

uncluster:Ada hal yang kamu gak suka pas lagi perform?
Phopi:Gak suka mimik muka aku uy hehehe.. Kalo aku kan player yah suka menikmati ritme musiknya, tapi kan suka ada yg dokumentasi tuh yang motret atau shoot video nah biasanya pas diliat mukanya sering gak “kobe” uy hehe.. Kalo buat hal lain sih meski kadang ada yang riweuh minta stik drum atau foto bareng sejauh ini kayanya gak masalah sih selama mereka gak culak-colek aja hehe..

uncluster:Siapa musisi favorite kamu?
Phopi:Kalo buat yang lokal Esa drummernya Tompi tapi kalo buat luar suka Akira Jimbo sama drummer-nya Sepultura. Euh.. kalo buat vokalis aku sukanya Jason Mraz sama vokalisnya Hatebreed. Satu lagi yah hehe.. kalo buat band aku paling suka sama Mxpx sama Sepultura.

uncluster:Di Lose It All kamu kan bikin lirik juga yah, biasanya dapet inspirasi darimana?
Phopi:Kejadian personal pisan itu mah, misal hari ini aku dikecewain sama orang pasti liriknya jadi yang tentang kekecewaan semua gitu hehe.. Jadi kebanyakannya sih dari dua aspek lah,  kehidupan sama penderitaan cinta hehe.. Emo banget yah hehe.. Lanjut pertanyaan lain lah ya.

uncluster:Khusus untuk di Kota Bandung sendiri, sekarang ini kan agak susah yah buat cari tempat buat ngadain acara musik kira-kira ada komentar gak?
Phopi:Kalo bisa sih ada satu gedung khusus buat nyalurin, misal kaya Saparua jaman dulu atau Dago Tea House juga enak sih, tapi tetap harus memperhatikan dari segi keamanan juga, jangan sampe tragedi AACC terulang lagi.

uncluster:Terakhir nih, minta lima lagu favoritnya Phopi?
Phopi:Lenka – Live Like You’re Dying, Oasis – Don’t Go Away, Aerosmith – I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing, Arctic Monkey – Fluorescent Adolescent, Sepultura – The Hunt eh nambah satu boleh yah hehe.. Sepultura -- Chaos A D.

[Uncluster/Hermusic]---Unlike her parents, Phopi Ratna Agustin decides to be a musician, and although once she was opposed by her family because of that but she stay in her way to make a prove. And now she is not only in one band but, three band with varied genre uniquely that are Monalisa, Lose It All, and Angsa dan Serigala. So what about this girl -who was born on 6 August 1989- point of view in music and her career as a musician? This is uncluster conversation with the first born child in the break time of her routinely rehearsal with one of her band.

uncluster: Halo Phopi
Phopi: Halo..

uncluster: Tell me how did you start your career?
Phopi: I like music, but once I was opposed by parents. All they know, music culture is not that good, then I prove the thought is not always right.

uncluster: Which is your first band?
Phopi: Melodic punk band, Monalisa, I play drum.

uncluster: Which one that you enjoy more?
Phopi: Well, I kind of afraid to answer it haha. I’m afraid if there is a band that would be jealous haha, um actually I more enjoy in Angsa dan Serigala because the band is more patent in concept and coordination.

uncluster: What kind of musician that you can say potential one?
Phopi: Um from the uniqueness, I think every musician should has strong characteristic so she/he could emerges the unique image.

uncluster: Which local band according to you that quite proper to be followed?
Phopi: Right now  I kind of like D’Masiv hehe.. the band is good as well the song, and the lyrics is memorable. Euh.. Endah N Ressa and Efek Rumah Kaca, they are cool.

uncluster: What do you think about a musician who covers a song as popularity and selling point for the reason?
Phopi: For me it’s not good, I prefer the one who believe in her/his own work. Because I think that would satisfy us more.

uncluster: What is it like, a strong character music?
Phopi: When people listen to the music they straightly think about the musician, that’s what I called strong character, for example when we listen to the vocal, we straightly know who it is, but nowadays it’s kind of hard to find out that typical musician because each of them has big influences in their music. And made us find the resemble part of two and more song easily, like in the intro or the chorus..

uncluster: Which one is more fun, being vocalist or drummer?
Phopi: Honestly, I like being vocalist hehe.. But I enjoy both, one time I can strikes and in another time I can scream aloud, it’s cool!

uncluster: Which one do you prefer, being famous with ordinary work, or having extraordinary work but not so good in selling?
Phopi: I want an advance, I like my music is being listen to everyone not only in certain community in Kota Bandung. I realized major label own its rules to make a lot of money from the music, but I think it’s ok especially for the debut. Then in the next album, when you have your own fans, it’s time for you to stick with your idealism, well it’s ok to follow the market at first, but later the thing would going in the other way I guess.

uncluster: From the three of yours, which band is heading to that way?
Phopi: Angsa dan Serigala, not only because of the lyric in Bahasa but the easy listening music is not focusing on certain segment.

uncluster: Is there any thing that you dislike during your performance?
Phopi: I don’t like my expression hehehe.. When I playing I just want to enjoy the rhythm and forget everything, but then when I see the video or picture of mine while performing mostly my face was kind of out of control hehe.. And else, I always become so hectic when fans to take a picture or asking for my stick, but it’s ok as long as they act politely hehe..

uncluster: Who are your favorite musicians?
Phopi: I like local drummer, Esa (Tompi’s drummer) and for the foreign drummer I like Akira Jimbo and the Sepultura’s drummer. For the vocalist I like Jason Mraz and Hatebreed’s vocalist. Oh yeah, one in addition for band I like  Mxpx and Sepultura.

uncluster: In Lose It All (one of Phopi’s band) you writing also right? Where did you get the inspiration?
Phopi: Well those very personal haha, I’ve been disappointed by someone for example so I’ll write it down as the lyric hehe.. Generally my lyrics just about two main topics, life and love suffering hehe.. It’s so emo isn’t? hehe.. Could we pass it and skip into the next question? Haha…

uncluster: What do you think about the condition in Kota Bandung lately whereas so difficult to find the right venue for music event?
Phopi: I hope there would be one special building for the music show, just like Saparua in the old times or Dago Tea House, as the security aspect coming first, the AACC tragedy may not happen again.

uncluster: The last one, what are your five favorite songs?
