There are some ways could be adopted by particular new band to promote their music works, one of them is by releasing a mini album. This kind of way is effectively adopted by indie-rock quartet from Bandung, The Northern Railways, who has released their first extended play in May 2013.
It contains 5 songs, and the duration is approximately 3 minutes each song. They try to offer easy-to-be-listened tunes, although all lyrics are in English. The first single, “Pretty Little Fire”, possibly the most descriptive one, is assumed deficient of hook, since the duration is too short; only 2:31 minutes.
Harsh distortion is the consistent distinction that they want to underline accompanying the dominant voice of vocalist, by using effects. To supply a different color, the four men asked Meygador (of Angsa & Serigala) to be a guest vocalist in song “Reflection.” The acoustic guitar performance in “Living in the Silhouette” becomes another alternative as to create a relaxing atmosphere whilst enjoying a cup of coffee in the afternoon.
The band, founded in 2011, only need about two years to complete all of those five songs. Probably, during the 24 months period, The Strokes and Arctic Monkeys had influenced them too much in forming indie-rock character that they hold up. However, all those concerned are not enough, their references must have a more important role, by listening to many kinds of music, so they would not be shut in such area of creativity and surely would boost up their “flight hours”.
Regeneration is absolutely needed therefore the scene of indie would not be monotonously occupied by the same bands, and perhaps more experiences may improve The Northern Railways to be a promising band.
