Yumna N Kemal : Rude and Reckless!

To some extent, British culture influenced the girl—whose nickname is Una—through her music taste to fashion. After successfully “kidnapped” her out from her home, during high school’s holidays, for a photo session at the rooftop of certain mall in Sukajadi, Bandung, uncluster interviewed the girl who likes to make jokes whilst enjoying beautiful view of Bandung above from Dago. Well, she’s rude and reckless, you’d better watchout boys!

When did you start to love music?

Since Junior High School, mmmm … since I was a kid, and since I can hear a sound heheee..

What kind of music that you frequently listen to, at first?

As my uncle and brothers sisters did, I’d prefer to listen to Culture Club, Morissey, and son on … Anything alike.

Name one of them that made you fell in love to music?

Culture Club, the vocal is funny!

What makes you enjoy music?

That would depend on what I listen to and the mood, as well as what does the song actually express.

When did you decide to be serious in music or be busy in a band?

Since the high school, it is not too long actually. At the beginning, I had once initiated a hardcore band, it was just had a briefing, but already I lost my feeling about it, so I decided not to do so, I think it was vague. The band had once has a myspace account, but then I decided not to take care of it. Then, I started to be serious with Daily Stupidity of Super Hero (DSS). However, to the date there has not been anything serious, it just for my kicks. Now, DSS is inactive, so only Local Drug Store still goes on.

What make you enjoy in playing music?

Each time, before I get on the stage, I always prepared a ‘mouse’ brand pills plus repellent cream, so we can enjoy it, just kidding hahaha. I found sensation during the performance for sure, it is fun! Whereas we have not been famed yet, it is fun when some of spectators asked us to perform certain song, its hilarity, so surely our performance has always been in revelry.

What make you choose music activities, or dealing with a band?

I am kind of joyful person, be relaxed, so I enjoy my young and single times. I rejoice every happiness I would have therefore I play music, or wasting money. … Hahahahaa.

Do your family support you? Your boyfriend does too?

They do, in one condition; it must not set back my responsibilities, I must not neglect my school, my academic matters. Boyfriend? I don’t have one! No way! Single would possibly give more opportunities … hahahaa. The point is I am not interested yet to have a boyfriend, it is complicated, I might have to give him a kind of mandatory confirmation all the time, actually perhaps I do need someone’s attention, but not yet, it’s complicated.

Do you have a role model for your performance?

I prefer Lovefoxx, but I just mix it, as I like Blondie too, another one is a band that has unique vocalist, The Distillers, and Bikini Kill as well. So I just put them in. Lovefoxx’s vocalist is absurd one when they are on stage, do you think they might be drunk before performance? Hahahaa.

Do you have a ritual of drunk before performance, too?

No really, I enjoyed every moment, I prayed before got on stage. Not drunk really, eh just a bit, that’s enough, it is expensive now, hahahahaa.

Is there any local musician your listening to, recently?

I am now preferring The Trees and The Wild, their music is excellent, moreover the guitarist is cute.

International musician?

Elastica, I always listen to Blondie, Tying Tiffany, and then let me see … Slackers.

What is the joyful of being a vocalist, do you think?

Usually, .., hahaha, it would be nice when ND (naik daun/ to be popular), hahaa, the nicest one is when I can develop interaction with my spectators during my performance, so I would be a most popular one on stage, … Hahaha.

Have you experience—at certain performance—that there was no single people witness you?

A few days ago at Score, whereas line-ups were great. There were Pink Pony Club, Bottle Smoker, etc; it was quite great. Unfortunately, spectators were actually only those who wanted to enjoy lounge times, so when we performed they just silent, as I spoke horseplay, but they did not response. So, only our friends made the performance in festivity, they clapped hands. In addition, we could not hear the monitors (sound systems), as a result we were annoyed after that, threw glasses, burned cars on basement, hahaha, just kidding.

Do you want to be performed on TV?

I just do what it is now, I am not too serious for that. But, I want to do more performances, with a good band, lots of money, hahahaha.

Can you name the most climax part when you perform?

Earlier, before I arrived at venue up to post-performance those are times I got climax, even ever since I took a bath at home!

Inspirations in writing lyrics?

Just daily common occurrences, such as when I feel a revenge, then I write it on lyrics. There would be no love song, or social matters, I prefer something naughty, a bit rude and reckless. Even I sometimes write that too exaggerated, so you might find words that are unsuitable to be spoken, anyway those kinds of lyrics are usually easy to be spoken. However, I am a delicate girl, and actually I would never speak like that.

Are you afraid of being detained by such lyrics, aren’t you?

Nope, because it will not be shown on our TV broadcasts. hahaha, if it will, it would have censored, kind of falsification, kill becomes kilik, it’s very coercive, isn’t it? What we can do then? Hahahaa.
